SELECTION
FROM JAN/FEB/MAR 2004

Our selection of 'home page' pictures built up during Jan, Feb and March 2004 capture some great moments. They begin with the Senior Football team Relegation Playoff under the management of Matt Duggan where we had an excellent 0-10 the 0-8 victory over Killererin to preserve Division 1A status for 2004. Next we had Annaghdown's U21 hurlers, who made a winning start to 2004 with a win in the U21 'C' Championship Final 2003 in a rain-lashed Athenry against Barna-Furbo. We then capture a picture from our U8 Indoor Hurling Players as the weekend activity in Corrandulla hall gets back into action. In Feb, we had the Presentation of the 2003 League winners and the Championship runner-up medals to the U14 Football team in Lydons Pub, Knockdoe on Sunday 8th Feb. Tom Murphy gave an account of the year with winning the league title whilst being unfortunate to come up just short in the Championship Final. He also paid tribute to Seamus Collier and Pat O’Keeffe for all the hard work during the year. In March, 21 Annaghdown GAA members left for a week in New York and Tom Burke (of Peggy’s Bar) delivered them to Shannon with next stop being the Wolcott Hotel in Manhattan. Highlights of the trip included the magnificent Madison Square Gardens where the New Jersey Devils triumphed over the Rangers in a 5-2 win, a white St Patrick’s parade as it snowed early in the morning as our 21 cheered on Caltra to victory in Fiona’s Bar on 81st and 1st Street plus finally the excellent food and hospitality provided by Paddy Heraghty of Ashton’s Pub who’s mother originated from Ahascragh. A trip to remember. A special thanks to Matt Duggan for organising the event and to Tom Burke of Peggy’s Bar for the much appreciated transport up and down to Shannon. The trip will be the topic of stories for time to come, some told, many retold and some simply left untold. Finally, our Senior Footballers started the League with a 0-9 to 0-6 win against Caltra who had just been crowned All Ireland Club Champions. |
